Wicked & Tired is, in many ways, the very beginnings of Cow House Press itself. In 2016, Sheika invited folks to hang out in her living room for 24 Hour Comics Day - an annual challenge to make a 24 page comics in 24 hours. There was a lot of coffee, bad movies, donuts, laughter and friendship.
These comics were wild, funny, weird, strange, vibrant stories that spoke to the weirdness that is life itself. Sheika decided to put it all together into one anthology. Having only ever self-published, she came up with “Cow House Press” to publish the book under - named for her living which had long been known as a gathering space for the Chicago comics community.
The first iteration of the book was as a DIY black and white zine with foiled covers. These were GORGEOUS but exhausting and expensive to make! Switching to a square-bound book in color made sense as a way to easily get more copies and distribute to contributors. With that, Cow House Press had officially published it’s first book!
